Yes Day… Why we all need one every now and then!
We all needed a bit of TLC. It had been a busy few weeks with lots of firsts and lots of lasts. We sat down on Saturday night absolutely exhausted. It had been one of those days. I was fed up with the sound of my own voice and the no’s and the don’t do that that sometimes goes with being a mom to 4 under 5.
I needed a yes day…. Where everything we want to do is a yes. The only rule is it has to be safe. We woke up at the usual ungodly hour on Sunday morning and told the boys about yes day. They were quick learners!! After a breakfast of Grandma’s Pancakes and Nutella, we dressed quickly and haphazardly packed the car. We were traveling cross country to visit an aquarium. Not just any aquarium but “the best one in the world”. Off to Galway, we went.
Many thought we were mad but seeing their faces light up as we walked through the doors to be met by a wave tank was completely worth it. Yes to lunch out, yes to ice-creams on the beach, yes to hours building moats and sandcastles, yes to mum and dad going for a swim, yes to finding a forrest with trees to climb, and yes to climbing those trees with them. What happy day out would be complete without happy meals on the way home.
Every minute of “yes day” was good for all our souls. The most surprising part of yes day was the simplicity of it all. They didn’t want expensive toys or extravagance. They just wanted us as much as we wanted them!
